Mercedes Sprinter LWB High Roof Race Van Camper Van Motorhome
SUMMER IS HERE – Restrictions lift on Monday – time to get away! 2007 Mercedes Sprinter 311 CDI LWB Race Van / Motorhome. We’ve traded up so as she is no longer being required, we need to move our beloved race camper van on to a new home. We have owned this brilliant vehicle for just over 4 years and in that time she has served us superbly. We searched for several years for this spec van until we found the right one, and she has never failed to attract compliments everywhere she goes. Even our local independent Merc Sprinter specialist who looks after her has said that he has never seen such a good one. There are quite a few vans out there but very few like this one at this price. We have used her primarily as a race van during the season, but we have also holidayed both in the UK and in Europe and also used her to get away to family events, and she has been just a brilliant addition to the family. She is registered as a motor caravan on the V5 (important) and was converted in 2012. During our ownership she has had a few upgrades, a few replacements and has been maintained regularly by ODUS Commercial, our local specialist. (I’m sure if you wanted an independent opinion he would be happy to give you such). We bought her with 162000 on the clock in 2017 and she now has 184000. Don’t let the mileage put you off in any way – the engine is the duplex timing chain version (no cam belt to change) which are good for 500K miles when maintained regularly according to our specialist, and she pulls like an absolute train. Last year I wanted to get a remap for a little more power (the 311 comes with 109hp as standard) and so to avoid any issues I had Odus replace the turbo proactively. She now drives like a car, with the ability to cruise at European motorway speeds with ease and she sails up hills in top most of the time. Fuel economy was good to begin with but has improved further since the remap which was done by Bosch ECU specialists Stealth Racing at Southam. She really is an absolute pleasure to drive over distance and the little bit extra oomph makes things effortless. She is rated at 3500Kg GVW and in normal trim, empty and with a full tank, she tips the scales at a tad under 3000Kg so there is a good half a metric ton of payload she can still carry. We went over to Guernsey one year with four adults on board, loaded to the gunwhales with camping kit, tools and race equipment whilst towing a 13ft Dory and she drove even better than normal so load lugging capability is second to none. We were allegedly a wee bit over weight, but it made no difference to her capabilities. She is constructed primarily as a race van and the previous owner before us used her to race motocross and managed to get two small’crossers in the garage. However she would also be absolutely ideal for a family with a couple of younger kids, as the interior is well appointed and comfortable whilst being very practical with loads of stowage in the overhead and under-bunk lockers. Is very good, (especially for a Sprinter) although at 13 years old, there are the inevitable one or two age-related imperfections as one might expect. (I’ve noticed today there is a small crack in the corner of the windscreen which I can either get done or we can adjust the final price accordingly, whichever is preferred). In our ownership, as well as regular annual servicing she has had the following. New Leisure Battery New Engine battery. New Shock absorbers (x4). New Rear Anti Roll Bar Bushes. Last year she had a new clutch and slave cylinder (about 1000 miles ago). New Dometic Rooflights with flyscreens and blinds. Android head unit with Satnav etc. She sleeps two adults comfortably in the main cabin as the seats convert into a double, and above the garage is a smaller double which is ideal for either one adult or two kids and which features LED night lighting. We generally store all our bedding up in this area during travel, when the beds are away. She has an extensive specification which is as follows. Full length roll-out canopy. Full size Cooker with 4 burner gas hob, grill, and oven. Sink with pumped running water (cold). Fitted Fridge with freezer compartment. Electric Flush Cassette Toilet in separate heads compartment. Cavernous garage to the rear ideal for either camping kit, bikes, chairs, luggage etc, and featuring anchors for a couple of motoX bikes if you wished. Twin rear fixed seats with seat belts (ideal for the kids). Fitted windows with blinds and flyscreens. Eberspacher diesel heater for those chilly winter nights away. Battery/Mains power management and electric hook-up point. External Fresh Water port. TV with permanent Aerial and signal booster (We’ve never used it tbh). 12V lighting throughout 240V hookup and converter for 12/240V. Pumpkin Mercedes spec Android double DIN head unit with Radio, Satnav, Wifi, GPS media centre and WiFi reversing camera. Gas barbecue port (plug your Cadac Gas BBQ into the side of the van and tap into the gas bottle – we hardly use anything else when we are holidaying – Please note a BBQ is not included in the sale). Heko Wind deflectors for driver and passenger windows – great for ventilation when its raining or if you’re in the South of France. Rotating front passenger seat to increase the size of the living area. LED Head and front side lights. Full propane gas bottle ready for this season It’ll last at least 2! Also included in the sale is a drive-away air beam awning (see main pic) which can either be attached to the canopy hard up against the van or, as we do, with the canopy rolled out to give a covered area for relaxing outside. Both air beams have been replaced in the last couple of years and the awning comes with a pump. When away on holiday, we use the awning as our bedroom with a big blowup double bed which saves having to keep stowing bedding every day inn the van. There is a grey water roller-caddy which connects via a small pipe and sits underneath the van when in use, and she also comes with insulated front window covers and a solar trickle charger for the battery to keep her topped up between excursions. (Please note the chairs, camping table and BBQ shown in the main pic are not included in the sale). V5 is present in my name and the van has just recently been serviced and MoT’d ready for the season so she is ready to go adventuring or racing, whatever takes your fancy. 2 X Key fobs. Owners manual and loads of supportive manuals/instructions for all the various systems and kit installed. Viewings are available by appointment starting on Monday 19/7/21. No test pilots, tyre kickers or time wasters. Demand for this sort of van is very high at present so if you fancy grabbing a bargain, be quick as I don’t think this will be around for very long at all!
