I have designed and project managed the build of the Puzzle Van over the last 18 months to the highest spec that I wanted and I could with no expense spared. All jobs have been subcontracted to experienced professionals, and I have a lever arch file full of invoices and labour costs. There is much more specification and detail to this bespoke build than I can possibly put below but I have tried my best! Puzzle Van was designed for 6-foot adults for full time van life off grid, as you will see from the impressive spec below. Donor / Base Vehicle. It’s a Mercedes Sprinter 907 317 CDI 9 speed Automatic Progressive spec, L4H3, RWD. The Vehicle is November 2022(72) it is a 2023 build model and has had all the recalls and software updates. The Puzzle Van is finished in factory painted in factory Blue Grey. PU22 LEV cherished registration and Insta page all included in the sale. These can be removed if required also. It had covered just 26,000 miles when I bought the van from Maun Motors commercial specialist with one previous owner to myself. I did a futher 6000 miles in the van before the conversion really started to get to the vehicle fully. It’s now covered 38,000 miles and was serviced 1000 miles ago where it had oil+filter, air filter, cabin filter, fuel filter and the brake fluid flushed and changed. The first MOT was carried out at the same time which was earlier than required but there were no advisories. The Brake Discs and Pads (including sensors) were changed all round 6000 miles ago when the suspension, wheels and tyres were fitted, made sense while the vehicle was apart and on the ramp. Mercedes Benz Rubber Floor mats, cup holders added. Koni active shocks all round, 2″ lift kit from Rhodes vans, x5 Method 17″ wheels and 285/70/17 BFG Trail terrain tyres fitted. Gecko vans diff plate. Rear air suspension with Schrader valve fitted by Glide rite, additional 2+1 uprated Rear leaf springs, 40mm wheel spacers all round. Puzzle Van has had the V5 changed to 4 passengers and “Motor Caravan” and has been up plated to 4050kg using SV Tech. X4 OZZ lights at the top, x2 OZZ grill lights, rear OZZ number plate light, all controlled by aux beam control panel set between the cup holders. All powder coated matt black. Mercedes standard alarm and immobiliser (both keys present) plus I had installed the top of the range Starline immobiliser system as we all as a standalone tracker (track manager). Mule Vans wheel carrier with ladder. Mule Vans Safari Carrier. Gecko Vans Aluminium storage box XXL. Thule electric retractable side-step set up on ignition switch relay, so can’t drive off with it left out. One-off Balufab 316 Stainless channel roof rack PPC Matt black to hold all solar panels, awning, lights, Gen 3 Dish and router Starlink flat mounted in 3D printed frame, this was CAD designed and all cross members fully adjustable to potentially change roof rack layout in the future. Terrawagen bonnet fly screen. Bonnet and middle window areas both sides wrapped in black to give the continual window look and stripe added above window line in 7-year vinyl, can be removed, not hiding anything at all, it was added for customisation and looks only. Windows and Ventilation and Insulation. I sound deaden the whole van, and floor and insulated in too using Dodo Matt products, I have all the pictures that can be provided. The side windows are double glazed privacy glass non opening windows, very good at reflecting heat and retaining warmth. Mercedes don’t even do these. Rear door windows are just privacy not double glazed. Roof Vents are x2 MaxxFan in light smoke. Blackout Blinds on all windows, Remis blinds fitted to cab windows all round. Truma D6E 10L diesel and electric hot water system and blown air heating. Dometic FWX4 under bunk 240V Air con, works via inverter and runs off leisure batteries, cools the whole van from red hot to 17 degrees in no time. X2 Fog star Drift pro 460Ah batteries. X3 Victron and x1 Sharp solar panels roof rack mounted = 765W in total. X2 50a Victron Orions. X2 Victron Smart Solar controllers. Sterling vehicle battery conditioner. I have been off grid and stationery in the constant rain in Scotland with my partner for 4 days and nights and did not run out of power or water for that matter. Cinderella 12v diesel incinerator toilet, the best system on the market, evaporates and burns your number 1 and 2’s. No tank to clean ever! 10-inch shower head, nice volume of water not stingy little jet. Hand wand too all in matt black. Due to being the L4H3 the shower room is very spacious with height and length. 200L fresh water underslung matt black tanks, 50L waste tank. 45psi pump with diaphragm system, great constant pressure. 12V transfer pump to move fresh water around as required. 12V grey water pump to ensure water expelled regardless of level. Sterling power 1800 induction hob. Graphite grey sink with under sink storage. X2 overhead storage cupboards with under lights. Dometic 12V 70L under counter fridge with bi-directional opening door. HI-Macs off white work tops (Corian), wall niches to hold condiments and oils. Under kitchen warm white LED lights. Matt black doorknobs (throughout van). Bamboo shelf under lockers. Concrete effect Waterproof wallpaper. Matt black mixer taps with drinking water filter. X2 Swivel bases, both seats re padded and re upholstered in real Italian leather with map pockets the colour is camel. X4 armrests, driver’s seat is heated. Double forward-facing rear passenger seat in matching leather with Truma D6E and storage underneath. X2 proper 3-point seat belts. Seat subframe mounted through chassis as per regulations. Off white CJL Leisure with double leaf table and matt black wall rail and table leg. A great area and the most used in the van, 4 people can dine in comfort – quite hard to do in a Sprinter! Lounge / Lower bunk. U- shaped seating area houses on the offside, all electrical components and batteries and is ventilated and temperature controlled to ensure components operate at maximum efficiency. The bottom of the U is where the AC is, and the near side is all storage which I use for clothes and shoes. I have 6 people seated here. The table then lowers down and by arranging the seat bases and backrests becomes a super king bed for a couple or great for a family to fit 3 or even 4 young children. Our two teenage lads were more than happy here. There is then a 190mmx120mm Lippert electric bed that comes down to mean x4 adults’ people can sleep longitudinally. Memory foam cooling mattress bespoke to the bed size. The van has been fitted out to an incredibly very high standard by the highly regarded bespoke builders Vanpuravida in Chelmsford in Essex, owned and ran by the lovely Cecile and Jose. The build took over 5 months with me making several visits per week every week there throughout the build. Everything has been thought of and as well as being an absolute head turner externally the vibe that has been created in the van has to be seen and felt to be believed. I wanted to create the rugged utilitarian look but without carrying that vibe to the inside where I went for Boutique hotel. It was designed and the project executed without compromise at all. It’s a capable top spec van which can only be described as in as new condition as it was only finished in August. There is so much more specification and details to see, and without using the cliché; viewing is essential.
